WILD PEPINO TZIMBALO

(SOLANUM CARIPENSE)

 

A rare perennial shrub from the Andes valued for its 2cm sized fruits which, when ripe, taste like a tangy melon.

 The fruits are ripe when they turn yellow and the stripes purple.

Better suited to warmer climates.

Suitable for fresh eating or added to salads or  as a delightful accompaniment to cheeses.

Well-drained soil.

Good humus levels.

GROWING TIPS

best sown in trays.

Press the tiny seed onto the seed raising mix and keep moist until germination.

Grows to approx. 50cm high.

Well suited to greenhouses.
