STINGING NETTLE
(URTICA DIOICA)
A perennial plant which grows to 1m.
As the name suggests, it is covered in tiny hairs which cause a stinging sensation upon contact with skin.
The sting can be “taken out” by drying or cooking (preferably boiling) the leaves.
Stinging nettle is very high in iron (more so than spinach) and rich in vitamins “A” and “C.”
When harvested while the stem is still green the whole plant can be used for culinary purposes.
