EGGPLANT: THAI PURPLE BALL

(SOLANUM MELONGENA)

The most adorable purple eggplants growing 5cm in diameter and looking like jewel toned baubles on a bush. This variety is a PROLIFIC producer of distinctly flavoured eggplants popular in Thai, Indian, and Vietnamese cuisine. Flavour differs noticeably from the European eggplant varieties.

Cool Climate: Early Spring indoors, plant out after risk of frost (OCT – DEC)

Tropical: ALL YEAR

Arid: AUG – JAN

 

SOIL PREFERENCES

PH 5.5 – 6.5

Rich, well-drained, friable soil.

GROWING TIPS

Sow in pots, 6mm deep.

10-14 days to germination, transplant 60cm apart and keep moist to avoid bitterness.

Pick before the seeds turn brown and while the skin is shiny and firm.

If growing for seed leave on the Bush as long as possible.
