EGGPLANT: GOLDEN EGG

(SOLANUM MELONGENA)

An exquisite, edible ornamental which grows as an annual in cooler climates, and a perennial in warmer climates. Up to 30 deliciously delicate “baubles” grow on this 1 metre bush and mature from a porcelain white to a deep golden yellow. This compact variety can be grown in a pot / container and the fruits can be enjoyed baked, grilled, or added to stir-fries!

SOIL PREFERENCES

PH 5.5 – 6.5

Rich, well-drained, friable soil.

GROWING TIPS

Sow in pots, 6mm deep.

10-14 days to germination, transplant 45cm apart and keep moist to avoid bitterness.

Pick before the seeds turn brown and while the skin is shiny and firm.

If growing for seed leave on the Bush as long as possible.
