An American Heirloom developed in 1955 by Famer Seed and Nursery Co. in Faribault, Minnesota. Round or oblate and not heart shaped as the name may suggest, these golden meaty fruits have a unique “nutty” flavour and lean more toward the tangy end of the flavour spectrum.

WHEN TO PLANT
Cool Climate: AUG, SEP, OCT, NOV, (INSIDE) Plant out after risk of frost when soil temperature reaches 16ºC+.
Temperate: SEP-DEC Transplant or direct sow outside only when soil temperatures reach 16ºC+.
Sub – Tropical: (FROST FREE ZONES) MAR, APR, MAY, JUN, JUL, AUG, SEP,
(Can be grown year-round but risk of disease increases when sown in hotter months.)
Tropical: Late April to the beginning of July.

SOIL PREFERENCES
PH 5.8-7
Well-drained rich soil.

GROWING TIPS
Raise in seedling tray, sow 6mm deep and keep moist.
Remove bottom leaves when planting and plant deeply to promote strong growth.
Plant 45cm apart. Pinch out laterals leaving 1-2 leaders and grow on a support.
