BEAN: SOY BEAN – EDAMAME

A delicious Japanese snack when the pods are steamed or boiled in salted water for 5-10 minutes, then running them under cold water. Squeeze the seeds from the pods. Can also be used to make tofu, miso, soy flour and soymilk.
They require a warm climate and a long season and are unlikely to do well grown south of Sydney, though there are reports of them growing in Melbourne. They make great green manure.

GROWING TIPS
Direct sow 3cm deep, 10-15cm apart.
They have a tendency to rot, do not overwater. 7-10 days to germinate.
Pick the pods before they yellow for fresh eating.
