An Italian heirloom originating in Sicily, named for the date shaped fruits it produces. Bearing a sweet flavour, it can be used in sauces, however In Italy, it is most commonly used by slicing fresh onto bruschetta.
Fast growing 2m tall.

WHEN TO PLANT
Cool Climate: AUG, SEP, OCT, NOV, (INSIDE) Plant out after risk of frost when soil temperature reaches 16ºC+.
Temperate: SEP-DEC Transplant or direct sow outside only when soil temperatures reach 16ºC+.
Sub – Tropical: (FROST FREE ZONES) MAR, APR, MAY, JUN, JUL, AUG, SEP,
(Can be grown year-round but risk of disease increases when sown in hotter months.)
Tropical: Late April to the beginning of July.

SOIL PREFERENCES
PH 5.8-7
Well-drained rich soil.

GROWING TIPS
Raise in seedling tray, sow 6mm deep and keep moist.
Remove bottom leaves when planting and plant deeply to promote strong growth.
Plant 50cm apart. Pinch out laterals leaving 1-2 leaders.
Grown on a support.
